Afternoon with Will and Shellac @ Bottom Lounge

Shellac @ Bottom Lounge. Phenomenal show!

Will was pissed about the ticket.
These pictures don't really get at what I mean when I say "pissed".
He laughed it off after and we ate a sandwich. Contest that mother!
Sorry Will... I had a great time btw. Thanks!

Etsy Squids

The photos don't really capture the actual colors that well. I was shooting with available light and there isn't much available in a garden apartment. Or should I say troglodyte apartment? I'll reshoot these tomorrow morning when the light is streaming in and see how they come out. I've got ten more blank wallets and I'm challenging myself to paint them all today...

No Parcing

DIY No Parking sign that was taped to a USPS letter box.
It's pretty cryptic but I think it's a no parking sign?

I think this was at the Main or Davis stop in Evanston. I love the floating space heads. It really reminds me of Omni magazine artwork.

Monday Fishing Excursion

Serious fishing face?

View of Chicago from Northwestern Beach/Park.

Classy fishing gear. We didn't catch anything but sunburns and some wounds.

Buzzer at a friend of Brett's house.

Bike that Brett generously let me borrow.

Nose that he found while digging for worms.

Fuckin' Gonuts!!!

Dunkin Donuts is across the street from my apartment. Yeah, obviously; if you live in Chicago then that is a given. Well, this is a fine thing I saw while waiting in line today. There were more foot prints but I couldn't get stealthy shots of those. But trust me. There were more.

The combination of being in Dunkin Donuts and the visual caused me to remember this t-shirt that I saw in the classifieds of a Rolling Stone magazine in the early 90s. So tacky!

Do you remember this classic as well?

Max

He sleeps like an old man. All snores and wheezes and grumbles.

Bill Callahan @ Bottom Lounge

I was very excited about the show; Callahan is one of my favorite musicians. The show was good. Not amazing, but good. Great live versions of Eid Ma Clack Shaw, Let Me See the Colts, and Say Valley Maker. No curmudgeon humor or acerbic anecdotes. Just him playing a few songs for a devoted crowd.

Paden Visits

We met at the Anderrrrrsonville Midsommarfest and then went exploring Wicker Park, Logan Square, Bucktown. It would appear that he had a good time. He certainly maintained a good attitude while we consulted maps and got mildly turned around.

Jaw-dropper next to The Whistler (where everyone was super nice).

Vic Chesnutt / Jonathan Richman @ Empty Bottle

Vic Chesnutt

Jonathan Richman

These photos where taken by Robert Loerzel. Click on the photos to link to his flickr page. If I had taken them they would be blurry, badly lit and poorly timed so I found these on flickr. The Empty Bottle bar crowd was kind of obnoxious but the show was amazing!

Saturday Strange

Jaw-dropping bar on Wabansia and Kimball. The Hidden Secret...

In case you couldn't see from the picture above!

Possibly the coolest shirt in the universe. Why are they always the wrong size?

Etsy Update

Two more wallets painted and in need of the polyurethane prep. I did a third wallet as a present for a friend. I don't know if she likes goats but I thought it looked really cool so it seemed appropriate... because she's cool, you know?

Illustration Heavyweights at Quimby's

A photo of Seth (Gregory Gallant) during his presentation at Quimby's Book Store in Wicker Park. He gave a highly entertaining John Cage inspired talk centered around anecdotes from his experience as an illustrator. There was a little talk of process, which is always fascinating. It was great to meet Adrian Tomine as well. What could have been a shameless graphic novel plug turned out to be very worth while as they both were extremely friendly and forthcoming about their industry experience and their personal identities as artists.

The Claw!!!

Pix of Apt by Request

The apartment is very nice and these pictures don't do it justice. The layout makes taking good shots nearly impossible.

Mornings

This seems to be a morning ritual already established...

It won't stop raining here :(

This is the view from my garden apartment bedroom window in Irving Park. I can see half a restaurant (a very tasty and friendly take out/catering place called Your Kitchen, which is locally famous for their Reuben Hushpuppies and Sriracha Wings) and half a funeral home parking lot!

p.s. and it's cold

Two New Mammalia Etsy Wallets

Both of these classy hand painted cigarette purses are available on my Etsy page.
